Painting Styles and TechniquesMy recent paintings are the result of experimenting with acrylics and raw canvas using methods similar to my watercolour paintings. This original technique is essentially a much more challenging one, with comparatively little control over the medium so that an exact outcome cannot be planned. However, the immediacy and freshness of the resulting paintings more than compensate for the lack of control, and my enjoyment of colour can be fully indulged in, as I please. The flaws and imperfections of the canvas helps prevent an overwhelmingly 'prettified' effect, allowing an aura of fantasy whilst keeping in touch with the actual flower that has inspired the painting I use quite a number of different techniques and styles when painting, I prefer to paint large pieces with most being over 2 feet square and many as large as 5 feet square in size.
I also continue to paint oils and acrylics in the traditional manner on prepared canvas for those works that require it. All pictures Copyright Maggie Thompson 2008, no reproduction allowed |
